tweak this, tweak that

For hours it goes on. Fiddling with channel levels, EQ, adjusting parts in the mix, rearranging sections of tracks, growing tired of the sound of a few tunes. All for a demo which isn't going to be blowing any minds. Still, I hope at least whoever hears it won't want their time back. I'd like to be able get the tracks sounding as I intended them to be and for the listener to "get it". Which is proving tricky with music that doesn't sit in any pigeonhole nice and comfortably and is a bit rough around the edges. I'm not entirely convinced they are suitable to share with the outside world. But sound advice is to finish up a project, get it out there for feedback and move on. So that is what I'm doing. Slowly.
Its at times like this I wish I'd paid more attention to guides, tips and tutorials in order to get things right in the first place. The four tracks should be alright once polished and mastered, the professional touch always helps. They aren't quite turds. Instead a favourite t-shirt with some puke on perhaps. Once they are ready I'll be passing them onto a few labels and music types for their feedback then will post them up here if they aren't all signed along with a world tour. Then it'll be time to be moving on with a few lessons learnt, fresh ideas and a clear head for the next batch.

Rod Azlan on vocals

Back in the mists of time before Rod became a global name as a dubstep MC touring with Rusko and working with others like Caspa he was a local promoter and host, up against it in the Medway Towns. Amongst other projects and collaborations we both ran nights at the same venue, him pushing his long love of dub and reggae and myself and another friend promoting breaks, electro and early strains of dubstep. A little way down the line and just as it all started going warp speed 11 for Rod he recorded a vocal for a Skywave track titled 'Jankophone' that will hopefully see the light of day given a massive reworking and tidy up. His voice is likely to appear elsewhere on tracks and mixes too in a toasting capacity rather than full lyrical business.
If you are reading this Rod there's a cup of tea with your name on, might even crack open some biscuits. Keep it Medway bruv :)

inky goodness

Nic Hamilton likes to play with ink. He's working on a set of pieces that you can have a look at in
his blog.
After intial contact via a couple of music forums and being impressed with his work and splendid
Moar Moar mix I cheekily asked if he'd be so kind as to let me use some of the work-in-progress photos of his art as a sleeve of sorts for a batch of tracks I'm working on. Being a fine gent he gave me permission to use a couple of shots which will have some info text added to for the demo or whatever form these tracks end up in.
All eyes to the skies.

Summer Swapshop

Over at the
Ninja Tune forum the next round of CD swaps is underway, the idea being to produce a nice compilation/mixtape/DJ mix and present it in your own thpethal way. I think its between 20 people (or around that number) and each person involved gets a copy of each CD. Magic.
On the shortlist for my mix so far are people like Black Moth Super Rainbow, Loops Haunt, Professor Ojo, Clause Four, Dabrye, Ghislain Poirier and Riow Arai.
Once the CDs have been sent to the team I will post the mix up here.

K.A.L. remix - the tentative first steps

Mark Scanlan aka
Kobra Audio Labs
teamed up with
Myuzyk and a gang of remixers who were given access to
material from his 'Tones, Drones & Broken Bones' album. The result
is seven remixes as a free download release and he reckoned my remix
was good enough to make the grade (what a kind chap). You can grab the
whole lot and my effort seperately via the links -
